Karl’s practice emphasizes federal and state taxation, estate planning and probate administration, tax-exempt organizations, and Alaska Native law. He focuses on explaining complicated rules in simple language and finding practical solutions. 

Karl is a member and president-elect of the Anchorage Estate Planning Council, and he is a frequent speaker on federal and state tax issues, estate planning and probate, and other topics.

Karl entered private practice in 2010 in Portland, Oregon, after receiving his LL.M. in taxation from New York University. Before attending NYU, Karl clerked for the Hon. Walter Edmonds on the Oregon Court of Appeals.

More Bio

Raised in Alaska, Karl enjoys the state’s incredible outdoor opportunities with his family. Together they ski, snowboard, mountain bike, and rock climb. He has previously worked on the Alaska Railroad and fished on the Yukon River. Karl volunteers with a variety of charitable organizations, including the Anchorage Library Foundation and the Alaska Community Foundation.
